For the exhibition Out of Focus: Photography, at the Saatchi Gallery, Jennifer West selected 3 film stills from her work Dawn Surf Jellybowl and reproduced them as limited edition photographic prints.
“A product of the Pacific Northwest in the ‘90s, I’ve never exactly been striving for some heroic sublime – my work’s more a DIY thing “, says Jennifer West of her work which involves discovering new ways to transform celluloid into vibrant, brightly coloured semi-abstract works.
The titles of these editions reveal all of the products and processes used to create West’s effects on the film including exposure to zinc oxide and applications of sex wax and smeared donuts.
