To accompany the Saatchi Gallery’s exhibition, Newspeak: British Art Now, one of the artists featured in the show, Jaime Gili has worked closely with the Gallery’s team to create a limited edition original, signed and numbered silkscreen print.

“Your paintings are like a bomb thrown into Cruz-Diez paintings” said Venezuelan Curator Jesús Fuenmayor of the “superstars” series of paintings by Jaime Gili (Caracas, 1972), from which this screenprint, A200 (Gio) comes. Gili reviews the abstract tradition from South America, and the op-art tradition from his country, depicting perhaps a clash between mid 20th Century utopias and the current local realities. Working both in London and Caracas, Gili collects popular revisions of the high abstraction from the fifties and has created a personal, intuitive language with his organic geometry and large site-specific installations , continuing some of the paths opened by abstract painting in the 20th Century, paths which according to him were never closed and will never be exhausted.
